Yuri Dolgoruki, Moscow’s founder, also founded Yuriev-Polsky which was later destroyed and finally rebuilt in the fifteenth century. Spend a peaceful day and stay overnight in Suzdal. Suzdal has kept its seventeenth century character and has lovely churches, an old Kremlin and fine museum of wooden architecture. Vladimir was the twelfth century capital of Russia before the Mongol invasion; Moscow is its successor. The Assumption Cathedral and Golden Gate are examples of white stone, pre-Mongolian architecture.
